Starting in 2027, the Netherlands will change the conditions of stay for Ukrainian refugees
Extension of protection:
De tijdelijke bescherming voor Oekraïners is verlengd tot maart 2027, wat een wettelijke status geeft, maar met toekomstige wijzigingen.
New status from 2027:
The government is considering three-year residence permits to avoid losing status when the EU directive ends, but with new requirements.
Financial Obligations:
Working Ukrainians will likely be required to pay their own rent and health insurance, while those who do not work will be required to apply for social assistance.
Housing and education:
Municipal shelters will no longer be automatically free (they will require contributions for those in work) and education may become a fee.
Goal:
To reduce costs for Ukrainian refugees and prepare for their possible return to Ukraine after 2027, if the security situation allows.
